Every year during the auspicious month of Shravan, thousands of devotees across India embark on a spiritual pilgrimage known as the Kabad Yatra or Kanwar Yatra. This year, I had the divine opportunity to be a part of this sacred journey, and it was truly an experience that touched my soul. Kabad Yatra Banner PSD Free Download
The Beginning of the Journey
The Shravan Kabad Yatra starts with collecting holy water from the Ganga River, often from places like Sultanganj, Haridwar, or Gaumukh. The water is then carried in kawads—decorated bamboo slings—balanced on the shoulders. We were a group of six, all barefoot, all determined to reach Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar, Jharkhand.
The journey was not just about walking. It was about devotion, discipline, and endurance. Every step taken while chanting “Bol Bam! Bol Bam!” filled the air with energy and faith.

The Vibe and Devotion
One of the most beautiful parts of the yatra is the camaraderie among fellow devotees. Whether it was sharing food, helping someone with blisters, or encouraging tired souls, the spirit of seva (service) and bhakti (devotion) was everywhere.
Even the smallest roadside shops welcomed us with free water, prasad, or shelter. The roads were alive with bhajans, drums, and chants. At night, we would sleep under the open sky, stars above us and the divine spirit within.
Challenges Along the Way
The path was not easy—heat, rains, blisters, and fatigue tried to break our resolve. But every time we felt weak, the sound of “Bol Bam” lifted our spirits. The strength that faith gives cannot be described—it must be felt.
Walking barefoot for over 100 kilometers is no small task. But the faith in Lord Shiva, and the goal of offering the holy Ganga Jal to him, gave us the energy to keep going.
Reaching Baidyanath Dham
After days of walking, we finally reached Deoghar. The sight of the Baidyanath Temple brought tears to our eyes. Amid thousands of pilgrims, we waited patiently for our turn. And when I finally offered the Ganga water to Baba Baidyanath, every pain vanished. It felt like I had touched the divine.
Final Thoughts
The Shravan Kabad Yatra is more than a pilgrimage—it is a journey of the soul. It teaches patience, humility, and the power of collective faith. I returned home not just with memories, but with a heart full of peace and a deeper connection with Lord Shiva.
